Plus Festival 07 - Moving Type Found
As a first post on Plus 2007, here is a series of 'found type' photographs I took during the event.
The conference theme was 'moving type' - type as in typography, letterforms, fonts, etc. - and I spent some time exploring the event and the area of Floodgate Street in Digbeth where it was happening.
Some of the images are of the work that was on show, some are of the user-generated pieces that some of the agencies had installed, and others are of signs, objects, and things that might have gone unseen by many of the people attending.
Type is often taken for granted - it's something that 'just there', that people read and go on to the next thing, but if you spend some time looking at the letterforms themselves you can pick up hidden stories and meanings behind the words.
The typographic tours of Digbeth happened over the weekend and it was a shame that I couldn't make it onto any of them, but even so I think my experience of wandering the immediate area around the festival made me open my eyes and take in some of the interesting typography that was around the area.
Here is a slideshow, you can browse each of the images by moving your mouse over it and clicking on the small icons at the bottom, and you can see them larger on the Flickr Set.
