Create something day 6 and 7: Peter Broderick – Float

Peter Broderick - Inside

I admit it – I took the day off on Saturday. I was shattered. But John Xela and I spent the weekend talking about our ideas for the artwork for the new album “Float” by Peter Broderick coming out on Type in a few months. I’ve been doing some photography for quite a while for this, and we spent some time collating the best images and putting together an initial print-based layout.

This is the result, and from Peter’s feedback so far I suspect that the finished article won’t be dramatically different form this, so here’s a sneak preview.

Ah, the end of a long week. I guess I just about did it, but it’s interesting to see how difficult it is for me nowadays to do the whole ‘create something every day’ thing on a personal level. This got me thinking, and I’ve brought my cello to the new flat and I’ve been messing around with Emily’s guitar recently. Perhaps I should give myself a longer-term project, maybe involving music, that I can keep plugging away at as well as doing my day work…

It’s been fun. I’m trying to work out whether I should try to keep this up – it’s obviously good for me to get this stuff out of my head and into whatever format it needs to be in the real world. But is making something in a day the same as plugging away at a larger project? Would I get more satisfaction from making a personal creative project happen over a longer period? I guess I’ll have to decide…

Beautiful photography, Stefan! I showed my wife who is a photographer and she really enjoyed them.

The creative process is a difficult beast to wrestle. Kudos to your lofty goal! I just try to create something once a week.

Anyway, I really enjoy your artwork. Here's my wife's photography (http://www.capreekimball.com)
